Anthem of CREC—“Trailbreaker”
On December 26, 2020, Pingtan Strait Bridge was opened to traffic. Designed by China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute and constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, it is China’s first, and the world’s longest, cross-sea road-rail bridge. The Fuzhou-Pingtan railway including the bridge was also opened on the same day. Multiple companies under CREC participated in the building of the railway section.
With a total length of 16.34 kilometers, the Pingtan Strait Bridge is a key control project on not only the newly-built Fujian-Pingtan Railway but also the Changle-Pingtan Highway. The upper layer of the bridge is a six-lane highway with a design speed of 100 km/h, and the lower layer is a dual-track Class I railway with a designed speed of 200 km/h. The operation of the bridge opens up an important passage in the “Golden Triangle” area of southern Fujian and is of great significance to facilitating economic development on the western side of the Taiwan Straits.
