On October 2nd, the ultra-large diameter earth pressure tunnel boring machine (TBM) "CREC 1420," developed and manufactured by CREC's subsidiary, China Railway Hi-Tech Industry, was officially launched from its Hangzhou base. The machine is set to be used in the Lot 1A section of the Salerno High-Speed Railway project in Italy.
The Lot 1A section is located in northern Sicily, Italy, and involves a single-bore, double-track tunnel. The project consists of three excavation sections, measuring 2.2 km, 3.1 km, and 3.8 km in length, with a maximum depth of 120 meters. The geological conditions include clay, silty clay, silty marl, and argillaceous limestone.
For this project, China Railway Hi-Tech Industry has provided three earth pressure TBMs, each with an excavation diameter of 13.46 meters. The machines are 183 meters in total length and weigh 2,900 tons each. The other two machines, "CREC 1418" and "CREC 1419," were launched earlier this year, on May 16th and August 5th, respectively.
