Source: Date:2024年10月30日

On October 9th local time, Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica visited the construction site of the Dominica International Airport, a project undertaken by the Overseas Branch of China Railway No.5 Engineering Group. He also attended a project progress meeting.

During the visit, Prime Minister Skerrit was briefed on the airport’s overall layout and construction progress through a sand table model, aerial footage, and detailed reports from project leaders. The meeting focused on future planning for the airport, discussing ways to enhance interaction with surrounding communities, promote local economic development, and improve the airport’s aesthetic and functional design to ensure its long-term sustainability.

Prime Minister Skerrit praised the progress and achievements of the project, stating that the international airport is the most transformative and impactful infrastructure project in Dominica’s history. He highlighted that it will provide unprecedented opportunities for the country’s development. The Dominican government will fully support the project to ensure its smooth progress. He also commended China Railway No.5 Engineering Group for its outstanding engineering expertise and teamwork, expressing his hope that the project team will continue to uphold high standards to make the Dominica International Airport a benchmark project in the Caribbean and beyond.

The Dominica International Airport project is located in the northeastern part of the Caribbean island nation of Dominica. The project covers an area of approximately 22,000 square meters and has a contract duration of five years. Key construction components include a new 2,850-meter runway, a terminal building, air traffic control tower, hangars, fuel depots, fire stations, a central power station, cargo stations, sewage treatment facilities, waste disposal centers, a health center, and the installation of communication and navigation systems. Upon completion, the airport will offer direct flights from Dominica to major countries in Europe and North America. It will become one of the most important airports in the Caribbean, facilitating the economic, tourism, and cultural development of Dominica and the wider Caribbean region.
