Anthem of CREC—“Trailbreaker”
On June 28, the world’s longest-span steel box girder cable-stayed bridge Zhongshan Bridge was connected successfully. A section of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Passage, the bridge was designed by China Railway Major Bridge Reconnaissance & Design Institute Co., Ltd. China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group and China Railway Hi-Tech Industry Co., Ltd. participated in the construction of the bridge.
Like the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Passage is another sea-crossing cluster project integrating bridges, islands, tunnels and underwater connections. The total length of the project is 24 kilometers, and the bridge measures about 17.2 kilometers. As one of the major control projects of the whole link, Zhongshan Bridge is a two-tower cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 580 meters. The towers are 213.5 meters high, and the bridge deck is supported by 120 straight diagonal cables running directly to the towers.
It is expected that the travel time between Shenzhen and Zhongshan will be shortened to 30 minutes from the previous two hours after the passage opens to traffic.
