On October 14th local time, Chinese Premier Li Qiang and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif jointly attended the completion ceremony of the Gwadar New International Airport project, co-constructed by China Railway Beijing Engineering Group.
Li Qiang remarked that the Gwadar New International Airport is a key facility for establishing Gwadar Port as a regional connectivity hub and marks a significant milestone in the development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Since the inception of the CPEC, both nations have achieved substantial progress through close cooperation, contributing to Pakistan’s economic and social development and regional integration. China remains committed to working with Pakistan to build the CPEC with high standards, ensuring openness, sustainability, and shared benefits.
Li Qiang further emphasized that the Gwadar New International Airport is a vivid symbol of the special friendship between China and Pakistan. Under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Pakistani leadership, the all-weather China-Pakistan strategic cooperative partnership continues to deepen. The unshakable friendship between China and Pakistan has withstood international challenges. Looking ahead, China is ready to collaborate with Pakistan in building a closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future, benefiting the people of both countries.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that the completion of the Gwadar New International Airport is another iconic symbol of the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China. The airport will unlock unprecedented development opportunities for Pakistan by fully realizing Gwadar Port’s potential as a hub. Pakistan is eager to continue working with China to enhance CPEC cooperation and bring more fruitful outcomes for both countries.
Once operational, the Gwadar New International Airport will, together with Gwadar Port’s shipping routes and the East Bay Expressway, form a modern, integrated sea-land-air transportation network, playing a crucial role in promoting local economic development and regional connectivity.
