China Railway No.9 Group’s Lualaba Company Receives a Thank You Letter from Ivanhoe Mines
On June 18, China Railway No.9 Group’s Lualaba Company received a thank you letter from the Canada-based Ivanhoe Mines acknowledging its completion of all targets with quality and quantity in the first phase of Kamoa-Kakula project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The first phase of civil works for the Kamoa-Kakula project officially started on September 5, 2019, with a construction period of 480 days. Construction mainly included earthworks, steel fabrication and tying, formwork, concrete pouring, and welding operations.
After the advent of COVID-19 in early 2020, the Kamoa-Kakula project department overcame various difficulties and ensured that each of the contracted targets was achieved on scheduled. On October 13, 2020, Kamoa Copper presented “Kamoa Copper Mine Safety Achievement Award” to the DRC project department of China Railway No.9 Group. On May 25, 2021, the first phase of the Kamoa-Kakula project was successfully put into operation.
