Anthem of CREC—“Trailbreaker”
The South Pacific island nation of Tonga has been battered by a massive volcano eruption which occurred from January 14 to 15. The ensuing tsunami left Tonga un-contactable for days. On January 22, offices of the First Engineering Bureau of CREC and China Railway No.5 Engineering Group in Fiji worked proactively with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Fiji to provide disaster relief to Tonga. The organizations made donations and participated in the procurement and transportation of relief supplies to the disaster-hit country.

Since the volcano eruption in Tonga disrupted the country’s airlines, the Fiji Office of the First Engineering Bureau of CREC leveraged the experience and resources it gained in Fiji to send essential supplies including foods, vegetables and drinking water by ship. The Fiji Office of China Railway No.5 Engineering Group dispatched over 30 Chinese workers to ports to help the delivery and sanitization of supplies and coordinate the delivery vehicles, which greatly facilitated the smooth transportation of the assistance resources and prevented the spread of pandemic.
