Anthem of CREC—“Trailbreaker”

The Nyerere Bridge, linking the business area of Tanzania's largest city Dar es Salaam to the Kigamboni district across the Kurasini creek, is the largest cable-stayed cross-sea bridge in sub-Saharan Africa.

The 680-meter-long and 32-meter-wide bridge comprises of six car and two pedestrian lanes. It was built by the China Railway Construction Engineering Group, a subsidiary of the infrastructure conglomerate China Railway Group Ltd. Construction began in January 2012, with a project cost of $135 million

The bridge was completed on April 19, 2016. When officially inaugurating the bridge, Tanzanian President John Magufuli renamed it from the Kigamboni Bridge to the Nyerere Bridge, in honor of the country's founding father, Julius Nyerere.

The project provided more than 5,000 jobs to local people. The bridge has ended the hundred-year-long history of only being able to cross the Kurasini creek via ferry, while connecting developed and less developed areas.

The bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that spans the Kurasini Creek in Dar as es Salaam City, Tanzania. Its main bridge is a twin-tower single-plane cable-stayed bridge with a span arrangement of (40+60+200+60+40) m. It was commenced in February 2012 and completed in April 2016.
